GREENLand presented at the Galway Festival of Science and Technology

Knowledge transfer to industry and other stakeholders at Ireland’s premier event for the promotion of STEM

27 years celebrating science in our everyday lives! The first Galway Science & Technology Festival (GSTF) was held in 1998, and since then, the Festival has thrilled, inspired, educated a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in people of all ages. The Festival’s goal is to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology. The Festival interacts with individuals of all ages, encouraging them to be curious about the world around them.

The activities also aim to communicate the relevance of STEM to the general public’s everyday lives and society. The Festival is a collaboration between local industry and education providers.

Sheharyaar Farid, a University of Galway PhD student, and Juan Lugilde Yáñez, a Postdoctoral Researcher from the University of Galway had an exhibition on microplastic in the environment as part of the GREENLand project at the Galway Festival of Science and Technology, in November 2024.

The Festival attracts a wide range of attendees, including students, families, and individuals interested in science and technology. The festival’s exhibition day, a highlight of the event, typically draws tens of thousands of visitors. In 2024, over 22,000 people attended the exhibition who were attracted by more than 80 interactive stands and other smaller events that were organized as part of the Festival.
