On Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, a workshop was organized by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission in Brussels on the topic “Bioeconomy education to enable the transition to a competitive, regenerative, and fair (bio)economy. Building the next union of skills in the bioeconomy”. The event focused on building the necessary skills for bioeconomy and was attended by experts from Educons University: Prof. Dr. Jelena Ješić, Prof. Dr. Simonida Vukadinović, and Jovana Kisin.
The event explored the critical connection between education and bioeconomy, with a special emphasis on various forms of education – higher education, vocational training, and youth participation – that can drive the transition to a sustainable and competitive bioeconomy.
Key stakeholders from Europe participated, including representatives from universities, vocational education and training (VET) organizations, youth ambassadors, and policymakers. The main theme was how education and skills development can support the growth and transformation of the bioeconomy sector.

Special attention was given to the Erasmus+ program, which plays a vital role in advancing bioeconomy education by strengthening cooperation and cross-border partnerships among European universities. The importance of knowledge exchange and collaborative learning among institutions was highlighted as a key means to create a skilled workforce that will support the bioeconomy.
The event was extremely beneficial for Educons University, especially in terms of promoting education in the fields of circular economy and bioeconomy, which are central to the university’s research focus.
Additionally, the event provided an opportunity to network with colleagues in the bioeconomy field, strengthen existing contacts, and open discussions for the development of new project proposals, as many university representatives at the workshop are already established partners of Educons.
The costs of participation in an event were co-financed by the European Commission and the GREENLand project.
