Professor Natasa Stojic had the opportunity to attend the 5th International Conference MICRO 2024, which took place in Lanzarote, Spain, from September 23-27, 2024. This event brought together researchers, policymakers, and environmental experts to discuss the global challenges of plastic pollution, with a special focus on microplastics. The conference marked the tenth anniversary of the MICRO event series, reaffirming its role as a leading platform for addressing plastic pollution in all forms, from macro to nanoparticles.
During the conference, professor Stojic had the opportunity to exchange information and insights with the GREENLand project partners who also participated in the event.
A special dinner was organized for participants from the Adriatic region to foster connections and explore potential collaboration opportunities.
She also had the opportunity to present the results of the GREENLand Project during the “Walking Talks,” where she shared research outcomes with a large group of scientists and researchers, receiving valuable feedback and engaging in discussions on future directions.
Additionally, we had the chance to visit the renowned vineyards of Lanzarote and the Timanfaya National Park, offering valuable insights into the island’s unique environmental landscape and the efforts to protect it.
The primary goals of MICRO 2024 were to facilitate access to research by exchanging the latest scientific findings, identifying research gaps, establishing new research directions, and promoting collaboration between the scientific community, industry, and policymakers to improve strategies for reducing plastic pollution.
MICRO 2024 successfully connected experts from various fields and set future directions for research and plastic pollution mitigation. The conference emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and international cooperation in tackling this global environmental issue.
