Workshop: Adoption of the legal acquisition of the European Union in the field of microplastics into the national legislation of the Republic of Serbia held for stakeholders at Educons University

The workshop on the topic Adoption of the legal acquisition of the European Union in the field of microplastics into the national legislation of the Republic of Serbia took pleace on November 1, 2023 in the premises of the Educons University. The workshop was opened with a welcome speech by Nemanja Erceg, Provincial Secretary for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, Rector of Educons University, Dr. Aleksandar Andrejević, and Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Protection, Dr. Mira Pucarević. The workshop was led by Nataša Stojić, Ph.D., who is a head of the work package 1 within the Greenland project. Dr Radmila Šerović, Senior Advisor, Group for the Coordination of Harmonization of EU Legal Regulations in the Field of Waste and Wastewater Management, Sector for Waste and Wastewater Management, Ministry of Environmental Protection, held a lecture on “Transposition and implementation of the EU Directives governing the field of microplastics into the national legislation of the RS”. Sonja Roglić, head of the Department of Chemicals in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, held a lecture on “Limiting the content of microplastics in products in the EU and the plan to harmonize national legislation with this limitation”. Ivan Đuričković, an independent adviser in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, spoke on the topic “The impact of micro and nanoplastics on health and the environment”. prof. Dr. Aleksandra Tubić, Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Novi Sad spoke on the topic “Challenges in the analysis of microplastics in the environment”.

The final lecture on “Secondary pollution with microplastics from various sources in the environment” was held by Dr. Dragana Vidojević, Senior Advisor, Head of the Department for Indicators and Reporting, Environmental Protection Agency. The vice-rector for science and international cooperation of Educons University, Dr. Andrea Andrejević Panić, addressed the importance of the held workshop and gave positive impressions. At the end, the need for focused research in this area as well as the necessity of launching initiatives for the legal regulation in the field of microplastics in the Republic of Serbia were highlighted.
