Milena Todoreskov, the librarian from Educons University attended the course COBISS (Co-operative Online Bibliographic System and Services) – an organizational model designed to join libraries into a national library information system with shared cataloguing. Currently, 265 libraries in Serbia are members of COBISS. The software is quite complex and consists of nine modules: cataloguing, acquisitions, serials, electronic resources, holdings, loans, interlibrary loans, reports, and application administration, each requiring respective training.
This is an introductory course into Cobiss course entitled COBISS3/ Downloading records and library collections, which includes the following topics: COBISS basics, user interface, basic tasks (updating records, searches…), managing applications, downloading records into the local database, printing records, COMARC/B and COMARC/H formats, etc.
Each participant was tasked with completing a set of practical exercises such as initializing the database, setting enumerators, printing book labels, copying data, completing inventory, etc. The 3-day course was facilitated by Svetlana Pavlović, Sandra Deljanin and Anđelija Lazić and lasted from October 10-12, 2023 at the National Library of Serbia in Belgrade.
