Research Training at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helgoland

Within WP3 of GREENLand project, from April 21st till May 1st 2024, Educons University research staff members completed their training at the AWI (Alfred Wegener Institute) in Helgoland. The training was for the analysis of the content of microplastics in water and sediment and the practice of sample recording on Raman and FTIR. The training participants from Educons University were PhD Danka Radić, PhD Vesna Teofilović and PhD Snežana Štrbac.

The second part of the training was the continuation of cooperation and further education of associates, to detect microplastics in water and sediment samples, which were prepared during the first visit.

This visit was extremely important for the researchers, to familiarize themselves with the work on the devices, and also to gain new knowledge about the analysis and interpretation of the obtained spectra. The supervisor of this training was Dr. Sebastian Primpke.

Further cooperation was agreed upon, as well as the possibility of publishing the obtained results. Participants also discussed the possibilities of further research and dissemination of results, as well as the possibilities of joint application of new research projects, which is one of the KPIs of the GREENLand project.
